About us - Restaurant La Cucanya

Who we are

origin

La Cucanya is a restaurant located in a beautiful enclave of Vilanova i la Geltrú. Founded in 1979, the name Cucanya was chosen because of the feelings evoked by traditional games: festivity, joy and good luck.
45 years later we continue to offer a cuisine faithful to the principles of the product, tradition and constant renewal.

The 80s

The restaurant was born in 1979, in what had been a private house. With a small kitchen and run by the then owner and manager Elsa Capeletti, it offered a purely Italian cuisine. The antipasti, the fresh handmade pasta and the dessert trolley were the highlights.

The 90s

Pilar Ballestero and Ambrosio Alcover acquire and take over the management of La Cucanya. It is then when the cuisine begins to take root in the territory. The recipe book of the traditional Catalan cuisine will be the protagonist: the Suquet de Gambas de Vilanova, our signature dish, is born.

The 2000s

La Cucanya is entering a new chapter in its family history with the addition of Carlos Alcover to the restaurant. As a representative of the second generation, Carlos brings a contemporary perspective without losing sight of the essence that has always defined us: respect for the ingredients, the region, and traditional cuisine.

The 2010

Constantly evolving, the gastronomic proposal continues with the desire to become more rooted in the territory. We went from a fixed menu to a seasonal menu, where every 3 months we adapt the elaborations to the local and seasonal product. Fish, mushrooms, poultry, legumes and vegetables, each at its optimum time of consumption.

The 2020s

We focus on the dishes that have most defined our identity as a restaurant. From Xató to Fricandó, from Suquet de Gambas to ceviche, from porchetta to Gall Negro. A fusion of tradition and modernity, of the sea and the mountains.

current events

More than four decades later, we remain true to our roots. A family history shaped by cuisine, the Mediterranean, and the generations that have helped it grow. With the arrival of Gastón Alcover Tamayo, the third generation of La Cucanya has now joined this journey.
